Receiving Email

We support both POP and IMAP for receiving email - we recommend IMAP, but it does require slightly more management than POP.

With IMAP mail is stored on our server and can be easily accessed from a variety of devices (eg a desktop computer, latpop, smart phone/tablet). Because email is stored on our server it will automatically be kept in sync on all the places you access it from. IMAP also works best if you plan to use our webmail client. Our spam filter also assumes you will use IMAP. If you use our spam/virus filtering with POP you will need to login using webmail from time to time to manage your spam folder.

The main drawback of IMAP is that your inbox will fill up over time.  You will need to either delete your old emails, or download them to your computer. Most email clients make this relatively easy.

POP expects that you will download the email to your device and delete it from our server. You can set an option to leave email on our server so it can be downloaded to somewhere else, but unless you delete the email it will eventually fill up your inbox on our server.

Receiving Email with POP:

Email Address:

Your email address is whatever your set up using the Virtualmin control panel (eg neill@ingenious.com.au)

Username:

If you only have one email account, or this is the primary email account then your Username will be your admin username (the first part of your domain - eg ingenious if your domain is ingenious.com.au).

If this is a secondary email account then your User Name will be the first part of your email address (the part before the @ symbol) and the first part of your domain name (the part before the first dot). For example if your email address is neill@ingenious.com.au then your User Name will be neill.ingenious.

Incoming Mail (POP) Server:

Use the server specified on the email we sent you when your account was created. For most customers this will be mail1.ace-hosting.com.au. If you don't have the email and mail1.ace-hosting.com.au does not work for you please open a support ticket or email support@ace-hosting.com.au.
